Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) contractors are paving the Orange City Street Project road without fully ensuring safety measures. Despite many accidents on the road, the police and the civic body are turning a blind eye to the violations. A huge accident took place on the date of 25th November, but the police have not even registered a case of this accident.

TOI accessed a video in which two policemen can be seen inspecting the accident spot soon after the accident.
A police officer of Rana Pratap Nagar police station has said that there is no such case or entry in the records of the police station at all and he is not aware of any such accident at all.
NMC was awarded the contract in December 2018
There is neither barricading nor a display board to warn about the road divider under construction on the entire 5.5 km stretch. The same is the case with trenches that have been dug for the construction of footpaths, storm water drainage networks, etc.
Sewage and stormwater drainage networks from Jaiprakash Nagar Metro Rail Station to Jaitala Bazaar Chowk have no cover at all in all very deep chambers, Due to which there is also a lot of danger to pedestrians, motorcyclists and animals. Many manholes are also open right in front of the gates of flat schemes, houses, and commercial establishments.
Kishore Umathe, director of Dr. MK Umathe Arts, Science, and Commerce College, has also alleged that due to improper road planning and a severe lack of safety measures, many accidents have happened in the last two years. “There is absolutely no street light on the entire road. On this route, the students of all the colleges and schools are facing a lot of trouble. The contractor has also put mud and debris in front of our college,” they said.
Umathe has also said that the starting points of all the link roads have turned into accident-prone spots.
NMC was also awarded the contract in December 2018. The contractor was to complete the work in about 15 months. Despite the considerable delay, the Municipal Corporation has not taken any action.
