Transport commissioner’s office orders action against mobile canteens

Nagpur: The Transport Commissioner’s office has ordered action against vehicles posing danger to traffic and people’s lives. Which have been converted into mobile canteens, food stalls, and eateries.
On Tuesday, Deputy Transport Commissioner Abhay Deshpande issued orders to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) and Deputy RTOs to initiate action. This decision has also come after the communication of the state government on Monday.
However, under section 41(4) of the Mobile Vehicles Act, a mobile canteen has also been described as a private service vehicle, Similar vehicles should be registered in the name of any person and if declared to be used by him for personal purposes only.
The Transport Commissioner’s office has said that these mobile canteens have been converted into canteens and eateries completely illegally. No safety measures are taken at all while cooking. These vehicles also mostly sell their own food products on sidewalks and roadsides in busy areas.
Regional transport officers of Nagpur were not aware
In the state too, the regional transport officers have to be fully covered in addition to the health department. It has also been asked to coordinate with the traffic police, anti-encroachment departments with civic bodies, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The regional transport officers have also been asked to submit the action taken report.
All these agencies have also been asked to launch a drive to check whether these vehicles are in accordance with the rules defined in the Motor Vehicles Act. Similarly, the FDA should also take samples of food items to test the quality of eateries.
Even after the instructions were issued, the regional transport officers of Nagpur were not aware of it at all. regional transport officer (East) Ravindra Bhuyar has also said that he has no information about this. They’re also on vacation and will let you know when you join.
Many residents and passers-by are also facing the heat of these vehicles. Which occupy the sidewalks of the city and are also responsible for the jam.
