Vaccinations of 12-14 age group likely to start once schools step in

Nagpur: In the Vidarbha region, there has been a slight improvement in the covid vaccination in the age group of 12-14, which started on a pale note on Thursday. City Nagpur In the last 24 hours about 659 children have received their first dose of Corbevax.
This jump from 81 on Thursday to 659 on Saturday can be attributed to schools, That are currently taking steps to get their students vaccinated against covid in groups.
On Saturday, about 365 students of this age group of Somalwar Niklas School have been administered the first dose of covid. All this happened after the school had approached Jaitala Urban Primary Health Center of NMC for mass vaccination camp.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation Epidemic Officer Dr Govardhan Navkhare has told that as more schools are added, vaccination will increase manifold from Monday.
Dr Govardhan Navkhare further added that he has also realized that parents are more than willing to physically vaccinate their children for Covid in schools once they reopen. And they will organize camps in some schools in Nagpur next week. It will also ensure that a large number of students get their first dose before their summer vacations. The health officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation are also planning to organize a special camp for the second dose of covid for these students during the summer vacations.
While the city is also trying to increase the vaccination rate for Covid among children in the age group of 12-14 years, Vidarbha and most parts of Nagpur Rural are currently sluggish. In Nagpur Rural (district) only about 153 children have been vaccinated on Saturday. Kalmeshwar (23), Saoner (55), and Parseoni (43), were the leading tehsils while Umred, Ramtek, Mauda, Katol, Narkhed, Kuhi, and Bhivapur completely failed to deliver a single dose.
Most of the districts of the Vidarbha region have also planned to organize school level camps in rural areas from Monday. Dr Nitin Wankhede, District Health Officer of Gondia has also told that about 49,100 students of his district will also be vaccinated in schools. It has been said that 909 schools have been contacted. He currently has more than 20,000 doses. Around 7,200 students are in urban areas while 41,900 are in rural areas. Everyone will be given covid vaccination in schools.
In Bhandara district, covid vaccination had started at about 22 centers on Thursday and on the day of inauguration, about 1,271 children were vaccinated in these schools.
In Amravati division, covid vaccination will start through schools from Monday.
