157 test Covid positive in a day; Masks are necessary in government offices
On Tuesday, the District Collector issued an advisory and appealed to the people to strictly follow the coronavirus proper behavior and also to start using masks in public places.
NAGPUR: For the first time in the year 2023, a triple digit increase has been registered in the daily Coronavirus case load on Tuesday.
157 New covid cases have been reported in Nagpur district in the last about 24 hours, which includes 101 cases in Nagpur city alone. With this, the number of active patients in the city has gone up to 308. And very alarmingly, 32 of them are hospitalized, which means that more than 10% of coronavirus patients require hospitalization.
On Tuesday, the District Collector issued an advisory and appealed to the people to strictly follow the coronavirus proper behavior and also to start using masks in public places.
It has been said in the appeal made by District Magistrate Dr. Vipin Itankar, “Since masks are most effective in controlling the spread of COVID-19, all officers, employees, and people visiting government offices should henceforth wear masks.” However, these are just appeals and not orders or regulations.

Sources in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have also told TOI that a 62-year-old woman from the Amravati district, who was admitted for some other ailment and she has died on Tuesday, was coronavirus positive. However, the Divisional Committee for Death Audit is yet to decide whether this one and the last three deaths in the last about 10 days were Covid-19 deaths or not.
Nagpur district has also conducted more than 900 tests in the last 24 hours, out of which 157 have tested positive, which means that the test is about 17% positive. Right now 447 patients including 308 from the city are being treated in the district. A maximum of 19 out of 32 Covid patients are hospitalized in GMCH.
