767 road accidents in 10 months of 2021
There has been a huge increase in vehicular movement after the easing of coronavirus restrictions in 2021. And in comparison, there was sparse traffic for most of 2020 due to the covid lockdown.
Nagpur: In the same year from the date of January 1 to October 31, there have been about 767 road accidents in the city. Which is about 169 more than the same period in the year 2020. At that time about 598 accidents were reported. This is what a study conducted by the Nagpur Traffic Police reveals.
There has been a huge increase in vehicular movement after the easing of coronavirus restrictions in 2021. And in comparison, there was sparse traffic for most of 2020 due to the covid lockdown.
All these figures have also revealed that the number of fatal accidents has also increased in this calendar year. In about 205 fatal accidents, about 217 people have died and about 83 people have also been injured. In the same period last year, about 156 people were killed in about 145 accidents, of which about 51 others were injured.
Nor has there been a significant increase in fatalities, minor and very serious accidents as well. In the year 2021, there have been about 260 minor and 297 serious accidents. Last year there were around 225 minor and 228 serious accidents.
Stop These Road Accidents
The study also revealed that the risk of road accidents on internal roads remains very high. Out of about 767 accidents, about 493 happened on internal roads. In 2020 this number was around 355.
According to the data given, there has been a very good improvement in the traffic on the Inner Ring Road. There have been around 44 accidents on the Inner Ring Road in 2021, last year there were around 69 accidents.
This year in 2021, there have been 9, 20, and 14 accidents on Umred, Bhandara, and Katol roads respectively. In the year 2020, there were 19, 11 and 24 road accidents on these roads.
The accidents on Hingna Road, Jabalpur Road, Amravati Road, Wardha Road, and Chhindwara Road and have shown a significant increase of 18, 49, 43, 46, and 31 respectively. In the year 2020, there were 26, 26, 30, 32, and 6 accidents on these roads respectively.
The traffic police has also claimed to intensify many campaigns to stop these road accidents. Recently it has now started campaign 1 on two wheeler riders without wearing helmets outside petrol pumps across the city.
