Buy Covid safety material, medicines in trains soon
The nearly 100 trains that pass through the central corridors of Indian Railways can now procure a range of much-needed items onboard.
Nagpur: Threat of the Omicron virus getting bigger, the Central Railway (CR) Nagpur division has finalized a contract for doing train-side vending of non-catering essential items. In which the safety material of various coronaviruses such as generic medicines, PPE kits, etc. is also included in the coming days.
Around 100 trains passing through the central corridors of Indian Railways can now procure several essential items onboard. Including the original generic medicines which can also be bought without a prescription.
The non-fare revenue (NFR) contract, the 26th of such innovators, will bring about Rs 3.48 crore to the Railways and also generate GSR of around Rs 61 lakh. And in the first year itself, the Railways is also expected to get about Rs 65.5 lakh from the contract.
Another contract has also been awarded on 20th December for the installation of a video-wall at Nagpur Railway Station displaying additional divisional railway manager, admin, assistant commercial manager (coach) VC Thool, PS Khairkar, under divisional railway manager (DRM), senior divisional commercial manager Krishnath Patil, Central Railway Nagpur Divisional. And this contract will also help the Railways to earn around Rs 26 lakh.
Railways Will Allow Vendors
Train side vending contract has been given to a startup of this city. The non-fare revenue team of Nagpur division, senior commercial clerk Zeno Andrews, comprising chief commercial inspector Tara Prasad Acharya, divisional railway manager Khare, and others, are also known to have come up with many more innovative plans to augment the passenger amenities and facilities in the Division.
According to railway sources, passengers on Nagpur-Ballarshah, Nagpur-Badnera, and Nagpur-Itarsi routes can buy non-catering items for daily use from authorized vendors at MRP between 6 am and 9 am. Haircare, skin, and Oral health care, magazines, cosmetics, laptop or mobile accessories, newspapers, stationery products, garments, and sanitary napkins will also be available onboard. The railways will allow vendors of private contractors only after their own medical examination and police verification.
