Mahametro contractor arrested for GST evasion of Rs 9 crore
According to a government press release, Mumbai area officials arrested Pratibha, a joint venture co-venture of CSL Sudhir Construction, on charges of evasion of GST of around Rs 9 crore.
Nagpur: The contractor of Mahametro, who has been arrested for evading GST of about Rs 9 crore, was reportedly sacked by the agency in 2016 for unsatisfactory performance. The contractor was also arrested in the crackdown on tax fraudsters and evaders by the officials of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Navi Mumbai Commissionerate.
According to a government press release, Mumbai area officials arrested Pratibha, a joint venture co-venture of CSL Sudhir Construction, on charges of evasion of GST of around Rs 9 crore. This company had also taken a contract from Mahametro for the construction of a train depot in district Nagpur.
It has been said in the release that the contractor had not paid the GST of about Rs 8.05 crore to the officials at all, Which was collected about three years ago in the year 2018. In addition, the taxpayer had also availed ineligible Input Tax Credit (ITC) of about Rs 95 lakh.
Follow the instructions of Central Good and Services Tax
The offender was arrested about three days back under section 69 of the Central Good and Services Tax Act and was produced before the Judicial Magistrate at Vashi on Friday.
MahaMetro officials have also pointed out that the contractor had already been removed from his services several months after his appointment.
He has also said that he was not at all satisfied with the quality of work. If any action is taken from their side, then they will follow the instructions of Central Good and Services Tax.
According to the release, the Central Good and Services Tax department is also using data analysis tools to identify tax evaders. It has also stated that using these, the area authorities of Central Good and Services Tax Mumbai have registered more than 625 tax evasion cases in the last nearly five months, Tax evasion of about Rs 5500 crore has been detected, About Rs 630 crore has been recovered and around 47 people have been arrested.
