Government panel directs reconstruction of Ambedkar Bhavan at Ambazari park
A committee headed by Congress MLA Praniti Shinde has also visited the park and inspected the ruins of the historical structure.
Nagpur: After inspecting the Ambazari Garden, the Scheduled Caste Welfare Committee of the state government has given complete instructions to MTDC to reconstruct Ambedkar Bhavan in the same place. And along with this, Collector R Vimala had also directed Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to register an FIR in this matter and stop the garden redevelopment work till then.
A committee headed by Congress MLA Praniti Shinde has also visited the park and inspected the ruins of the historical structure. She inspected the spot after complaints from former Congress councilors demanding strict action against the private operator of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, Garuda Amusement Park (Nagpur) Pvt Ltd.
MTDC had also engaged the operator for the redevelopment of this garden and its own operation and maintenance. And last year the operator also completely demolished the hall.
West Nagpur MLA Vikas Thakre had also raised the same issue and demanded strict action against those who completely destroyed the historical structure.
On Saturday also, city Congress Committee president Vikas Thakre also met Shinde and briefed him about the operator’s open violations and inaction by MTDC and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
MTDC to answer the headquarters soon
In the month of June last year too, the then Nagpur Municipal Corporation office-bearers – ruling party leader Avinash Thackeray and Legal Advisory Committee chairman Dharampal Meshram – While demanding action in this entire matter, had said that even before the demolition of the structure, the permission of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation was very much necessary. Because it was built by Nagpur Municipal Corporation in the memory of the late Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
During the visit of the committee, the former councilors of Congress also got information about the meeting organized by the collector on the date of March 28. According to the minutes of the meeting signed on the date of 19th April, The Collector had also thoroughly inquired from the MTDC officials about the FIR lodged against the operator and the status of the reconstruction of the hall. In response to this also, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation officials said that they have forwarded the instructions of the Collector to the office of their own head. And the Collector has also instructed the officers of MTDC to answer the headquarters very soon. He has also directed the officials of MTDC to stop the work completed by then.
The redevelopment project of Ambazari Udyan has been heavily embroiled in these controversies due to inordinate delay by the operator and inaction on the part of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation in starting the works. The government had also allotted land to MTDC on the date of 3rd July 2017 and till now nothing much has happened except the demolition of Ambedkar Bhavan.
