Dr. Shyam Nimgade, Assistant Director of Health Services, has also said that the number of cases has come down by about 50% as compared to the same period of the last two years.

The division had registered 42 and 26 cases in the years 2020 and 2021 respectively. And the comparison is also mainly with the year 2021, which is completely exhausted with around 3,628 cases. In the year 2020, a drop of almost 50% has also been registered as compared to the previous year as people remained fully alert during the first wave of Coronavirus. However, the devastating second wave of coronaviruses left little for citizens and officials to stop mosquito breeding.

Dr. Shyam Nimgade has also said that there is still a need for people to be very cautious so that it can be ensured that the year 2021 does not repeat at all.

11,000 suspected samples and 24 deaths

Dr. Shyam Nimgade also said that last year, health workers were busy with the management of the coronavirus, besides getting themselves heavily infected, which greatly hampered the prevention measures. They have just enough staff to manage dengue and malaria in the same year. Around 165 suspected cases came out, but only 17 have tested positive for dengue.

Last year alone, more than 3,600 confirmed cases out of more than 11,000 suspected samples and 24 deaths. And in fact, the year 2021 was one of the worst, registering an almost 300% jump in dengue cases and deaths compared to the pre-Covid year.

The doctors also questioned the way in which the positive cases were confirmed as the department had counted them on the basis of ELISA tests. Some NS-I antigen tests were not taken as positive cases at all, However, the patients were treated for joint pain, headache, and high fever. Which are also common symptoms of dengue.
