Gandhigiri by school girls!
Gandhigiri is the new trend for protesting against the wrong. Something similar to this has been portrayed by the girls of Tata Parsi Girls School. On Saturday, the girls adopted Gandhigiri to protest against eve teasing in the area surrounding the school. The students were seen holding roses. Banners with the message “Don’t Stare At Us” and “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” were seen in their hands.
The girls students complained of eve teasing, allegations of abuse, harassment and physical assault by the street vendors and encroachers. All these issues were raised by school administration. The surprising thing is that Ganeshpeth Police Station has made it clear that they haven’t received any such complaints yet, as stated by Police Inspector Shivraj Kumre. Thirty Patel is the trustee of the school and stated that people in the Saturday market start fighting and abusing each other near the school.
Patel further added that vendors occupy the space near school even though, the area near Khau Galli is vacant. The school administration is concerned over the issue. School administration brings it to notice that HSC Board Exams are commencing and in March, SSC exams are commencing so they want their school to be safeguarded. Shanoor Khushru Mirza is the Principal of the school. The principal says that anti-social elements have crossed all the limits and minor girls are being a trap of this. Many instances have taken place where acts by them have crossed all boundaries.
School authorities also state that girls have been inappropriately touched by the people in school vicinity. PI Kumre has assured that they will keep an eye in the area to avoid any kind of incidents.
