Nagpur: Girish Gondane, a 32-year-old man from Amravati, tried to kill his one-day-old son by throwing him on the floor at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here on Saturday.
Before he could do any further harm, alert onlookers rescued the child from him, and then the child was taken to the ICU.
It is also learned that Girish Gondane and his wife Prateeksha had a love marriage in July 2021. He also began to doubt his wife’s loyalty to him and her character. Girish Gondane used to behave violently with his wife questioning her morality.
Prateeksha was also admitted to a hospital in Amravati but after her condition worsened, she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital. She gave birth to the child on 30 December. The very next day, Girish Gondane landed at GMCH. “The accused from Amravati started arguing when he came to meet her after she gave birth to her son at Government Medical College and Hospital on December 30. In a fit of rage, he threw the infant on the floor,” said a police officer.
Child is stable in the intensive care unit of the hospital
Girish Gondane has also been handed over to the Ajni police, who have arrested him and charged him with attempt to murder.
“The 32-year-old man was held by nurses and others in ward 46, where the incident took place. He then called the police, who arrested the man on charges of attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt,” he said.
Talking about this, the officer of Ajni police station has told that the condition of the child is stable in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
