City to get its Second CJI with Justice Bobde
As the Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi is all set to say goodbye with his retirement, he has recommended the name of the successor for the topmost position in the Indian Judicial system. He is none other than Justice Bobde who happens to be from our Nagpur. The city is proud to hear this news and it is all set to give its second Chief Justice of India to the country’s Supreme Court after Justice Mohammed Hidyatullah who also served on the same position during the tenure 1968 to 70 and he later turned the VP of India.
Justice Bobde’s term will be commencing next month as he takes the charge for the topmost position in Judiciary at the Supreme Court on 18th November as the 47th CJI of the country. He will be taking the helm of affairs next month and would be retiring on 23rd April 2021. While Justice Gogoi served as CJI for not less than eight months when he was appointed as the new Chief Justice of the country’s Supreme Court early this year by the Modi Government.
As per several city lawyers, the appointment of the next CJI was done on the conventional method that often deals with recommending the next judge for the country’s supreme position. Currently, Justice Sharad Bobde is based in Nagpur and is the VC of National Law Universities in Nagpur. He will be addressing the national Legal Services Authority where different judges from all over India would be participating. From a city lawyer to transcending to a higher position like CJI, it has been a big leap for him and a proud moment for the city.
