Congress stakes claim on Amravati Lok Sabha seat contested by NCP
Speaking to the media on Monday as well, Yashomati Thakur said that his party has a huge presence in the entire Amravati district, and Vidarbha has also been a traditional bastion of the Congress.
Nagpur: Differences in the Maha Vikas Aghadi regarding seat sharing for next year’s Lok Sabha elections have come to the fore once again on Monday. When Teosa MLA Yashomati Thakur has staked Congress claim on Amravati LS seat.
Speaking to the media on Monday as well, Yashomati Thakur said that his party has a huge presence in the entire Amravati district, and Vidarbha has also been a traditional bastion of the Congress. For this reason, the Congress candidate should also contest the general election from the Amravati seat. And Yashomati Thakur could not be reached at all for comment on speculations about him contesting the Lok Sabha polls. State Congress leaders said she may be keen on ‘promotion’ as she is a three-time MLA.
However, NCP city president Duneshwar Pethe has said that the Amravati seat was allotted to the NCP even before the MVA came into existence. And because of this, Yashomati Thakur’s demand did not make any sense whatsoever.
“In 2014, the incumbent Navneet Rana contested on an NCP ticket, But the then Shiv Sena MP was defeated by Anand Adsul. In 2019, he contested as an independent with the support of our party and defeated Adsul badly. Our leaders campaigned for them, But then later they betrayed us and joined hands with the BJP.” he told TOI.
NCP staked a claim on the Pune Lok Sabha seat
Navneet Rana has also said that it will not matter at all who will contest against him in the elections 2024. Because she was also confident of her success on the basis of the work done in the last five years. A few days ago, the NCP also staked a claim on the Pune Lok Sabha seat, on which the Congress has been contesting.
Regarding Amravati’s seat, Rana said, “My husband, MLA Ravi Rana, and I work for the citizens almost 24×7. We are easily accessible to voters. I have tried to bring good projects like Mega Textile Park in the district, Which was announced by PM Modi. I also tried hard to revive the Belora airport which was stalled during the tenure of the MVA government. Now it has got funds and its terminal building is getting ready. The people here know the work of his daughter-in-law.” Rana refused to comment on Yashomati Thakur’s claims, calling it an internal matter of the MVA.
