Make rain water harvesting or Rs. 20k fine in 15 days: Chanda civic body

The civic body has also warned of penal action against those who completely fail to comply within the time limit.

Chandrapur: Implementing its new policy with the aim of recharging the groundwater level, The Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) has given an ultimatum of about 15 days to every property owner, whether in apartment buildings, borewells, or wells, to install rainwater harvesting facilities.

The civic body has also warned of penal action against those who completely fail to comply within the time limit.

Civic officials have said that as per the new policy, property holders who completely fail to install the rainwater harvesting facility will be fined around Rs 20,000. This amount will also be recovered as arrears of property tax.

The Chandrapur Municipal Corporation has also decided to provide additional subsidies to those who have the facility of rainwater harvesting according to the size of the building.

In the new policy, about Rs 5,000 for buildings up to 1000 sq ft of construction area, A subsidy of about Rs.7,000 has been provided for buildings of area 1001 to 2000 sq. ft. along with a subsidy of about Rs.10,000 for buildings above about 2000 sq. ft. area. Apart from this, all people with rainwater harvesting facilities will also get a concession of about 2% in property tax for about three years.

“Building owners are also being informed about this new rainwater harvesting policy through telephone, SMS, and voice messages,” Chandrapur Municipal Corporation commissioner Rajesh Mohite said Along with this, the same and urged him to install it within the next 15 days to avoid taking any action.

Along with this, organizations like EcoPro, Rotary Club, Rakshan Dharani Matiche, etc. are also promoting rainwater harvesting initiatives in the city and also getting huge support from all interested people at different levels.
