Maharashtra MLC Elections: Double whammy for MVA, BJP registers a crushing victory

It has lost both the Akola-Buldhana-Washim and Nagpur seats by a huge margin in the elections to the local authority constituency of the MLC, The results of which were declared on Tuesday.

Nagpur: After taking over the reins of Maharashtra in the year 2019, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has suffered the first major setback in the Vidarbha region.

It has lost both the Akola-Buldhana-Washim and Nagpur seats by a huge margin in the elections to the local authority constituency of the MLC, The results of which were declared on Tuesday.

Earlier also it had lost graduates’ constituency and Zilla Parishad elections and by-elections from a three-party alliance.

BJP has won 4 out of 6 seats where elections were held on 10th December.

Four of them have been elected unopposed after an informal settlement was reached between the rival factions.

It also includes two seats of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) where Shiv Sena’s Sunil Shinde and BJP’s Rajhans Singh.

In the seats of Kolhapur and Nandurbar-Dhule, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress got 1 seat each.

The Washim-Akola-Buldhana constituency was a much-anticipated victory for Chandrashekhar Bawankule of the saffron party, And it has created a coup of sorts by defeating Shiv Sena’s Gopikishan Bajoria, 3-time MLC, by a margin of nearly 109 votes, And this despite the fact that the constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi had more than 400 votes out of about 822 voters.

Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has played a vital role in ensuring the victory of Vasant Khandelwal of Bharatiya Janata Party along with several independent candidates.

Where Vasant has got about 443 votes, At the same time, Gopikishan got 334 votes out of about 808, which were found valid.

Elected and Nominated Representatives

This means that Bharatiya Janata Party got the largest number of 157 votes from other parties, Which probably included 86 of the VBA, 77 independents and many from the constituents of the MVA – Congress, Shiv Sena, and NCP.

Along with this, in Nagpur also Bharatiya Janata Party has got a total of 44 votes from 3 alliance partners and other parties apart from its tally of 318.

Maha Vikas Aghadi-backed Independent Mangesh Deshmukh got a total of 186 votes.

Former Congress Party candidate Ravindra Bhoyar, who were imported from Bharatiya Janata Party, Has managed to garner one vote, which everyone is speculating that it may be his own.

However, he also told on Friday that he has followed the party line and voted for Mangesh.

He has flatly refused to vote for himself, Similarly, leaving a huge question mark as to who voted for him.

The oldest party had issued a whip to each of its 186 elected and nominated representatives to get Mangesh’s support.

Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis lauded the double victory of Khandewal and Chandrashekhar, saying it was a hard slap on the face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi partners.

He tweeted that both these victories are very special and also the result of hard work of all the workers. With these victories from Akola and Nagpur by a huge margin, Bharatiya Janata Party again proves its strength in these MLC elections,

Devendra was in the city to greet Chandrashekhar and joined the celebrations along with party workers after the results were declared at the reception lawns on Tuesday morning.
