The (IMD) India Meteorological Department has issued an alert about heavy rain in Nagpur city for the next two days,
Nagpur: The (IMD) India Meteorological Department has issued an alert about heavy rain in Nagpur city for the next two days. While the District Disaster Management Authority has issued an advisory to all the people living near the drains and rivers to be safe and sound.
The places have been cautioned to relocate and take necessary care in view of possible release. Water from irrigation projects and overflow from dams. Most of the dams have very good water storage and while smaller projects are filled up to their banks.
The officials of the Water Resources Department can open the gates of the dams on any day with the forecast of heavy rains from the department. If all the dams start filling with water. There is a possibility of flooding of drains and rivers. Authority was informed about it.
Water is overflowing from these dams
Major irrigation projects already have very good water storage. Like Wadgaon (Umred) – 94 per cent and Nand Dam (Umred) – 76 per cent, Totladoh Dam (Ramtek) – 86 per cent, Navegaon-Khairi (Parseoni) – 79 per cent. And 9 medium dams in the district. Chandrabhaga, Jam in Katol tehsil, Venna in Nagpur tehsil, Pandhraobodi-Umred ,Mordham, Kesarnullha dams in Kalmeshwar tehsil, Kanholibara in Hingna tehsil, Kesarnullha dams in Kalmeshwar tehsil, Kolar and Umri medium projects in Saoner tehsil have 100% in the water storage. The storage is water is still flowing from all these dams. And in the water storage in all the other medium dams. Sayki – 96% and Khekranullah – 96% and Makardhokda – 46%.
The department may open the gates of major irrigation projects at any time. Taking into account the heavy rainfall in the catchment area and the water flowing from several adjoining areas to the reservoir. While the water starts flowing through un-gated dams. If all this happens, the river and the drain will get flooded.
For this purpose, the District Disaster Management Authority has appealed. To the farmers and people. Living in all the low-lying areas to shift all their agricultural implements. And all the pets to any safe places. All persons should take care while crossing any river or water body at all. All the citizens on the banks of the rivers should immediately. Go somewhere else and should not dare to go out at all when heavy rains come.
