In CBSE board exams masks are not mandatory
This seems to be a very practical call by the central board, as it conducts examinations not only across the country but also abroad.
Nagpur: CBSE is not issuing any instructions at all regarding the use of masks by the students during the upcoming board exams. And the students are also expected to strictly follow the guidelines set by the local administration. And also speaking to TOI, CBSE’s Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said, “Basically, everyone has to follow their state/UT mandate on this issue.”
This seems to be a very practical call by the central board, as it conducts examinations not only across the country but also abroad. And even with the India-wide restrictions for Coronavirus, CBSE has also left it to the State Government/Union Territory to guide the students in their respective jurisdiction.
TOI also spoke to some principals, who had mixed views on the same. However, no one wanted to talk officially for fear that it might not go down too well with the Central Board. A city principal also said, “It is always good for students to wear masks, as it protects everyone around. This is not about covid-19 as it does not seem to be such a big threat as of now, but it is about cough/cold infection. You don’t want students to fall ill during board exams.”
Exam had to be canceled as the deadly second wave
Another principal of a city school said about this, “I can understand why CBSE has not issued any instructions in this regard, because masks are banned in schools anyway. Maybe 1%-2% of children wear masks and that too when they are playing outside and want to avoid dust. That’s why CBSE’s involvement in this is meaningless while the municipal corporations themselves are not saying anything.”
Please tell that the CBSE examinations are going to start from the date of February 15, but the major papers will start from next week itself. And for class XII also the first major paper will be on the date of 20th February, while for class XI it will be on the date of 27th February.
This is going to be the first ‘normal’ board exam for CBSE since 2019. And in the year 2020, the pandemic hit the schedule midway and the exams got affected a lot. In the year 2021, the exam had to be completely canceled as the very deadly second wave of Coronavirus continues. In the year 2022, the exams also went ahead, but the Covid-19 protocols were still in place at some level.
