Nagpur to gets its New Mayor Soon from Open Category
As the tussle for the power between the Shiv Sena and BJP continues, we see the state coming under president’s rule. But amidst this political cloud, we now hear that the new City Mayor is likely to elected soon and that he or she would come from a general category. As per reports, a draw of 27 municipal corporators is done recently in Mumbai in which Nagpur has voted for the mayor from Open Category.
Earlier, this position was reserved only for the woman from the general category. However, this time, things have slightly changed and we have a male mayor from the general category. The election date for Mayor in the city would be on 21st November, which is still tentative. However, the date could slip to one extra day reaching to 22nd November. The deadline for the nomination for mayor is on 16th November. The city will, therefore, have its 53rd Mayor.
The NMC has 151 seats, while there are 149 corporators and thus two seats remain vacant. One of the two seats is vacant due to the sudden demise of a BJP corporator called Jagdish Gawalbanshi, while the other seat got vacant as the BJP corporator Durga Hathithele was declared as ineligible. Currently, the BJP has 106 corporators, while Congress has 29. For the upcoming tenure, there are some strong contenders lets see who will be winning the same.
