NHAI’s 6.44km Lakhni & Sakoli flyovers open, to ease congestion

Even light and very heavy vehicles moving towards Raipur will get rid of the traffic congestion completely near the busy Lakhni and Sakoli towns of Bhandara district for now.

Nagpur: Two state-of-the-art six-lane flyovers – one at Lakhni (3.50 km long) and the other at Sakoli (2.94 km), constructed at a cost of about Rs 582 crore, The commission has been done by Union transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday. This will give complete relief from traffic congestion on NH-53 (old NH-6) between Nagpur and Raipur.

Even light and very heavy vehicles moving towards Raipur will get rid of the traffic congestion completely near the busy Lakhni and Sakoli towns of Bhandara district for now.

Nitin Gadkari has said that this will not only save a lot of fuel but also save a lot of time. Along with this, the risk of road accidents will also end with this. The two flyovers will also significantly reduce the travel time for tourists visiting Nagzira and Navegaon.

Nitin Gadkari was in Gondia and Bhandara districts to inaugurate several road widening projects of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Along with this, Lakhni flyover has been named after social activist Late Shyamrao Bapu Kapgate. It has also been said that the two flyovers have also fulfilled the much needed bypass for the two cities.

Along with this, the Union Minister also announced many projects in Gondia. One of the major decisions was the addition of a dry port in the district for exporting surplus rice produce. And Nitin Gadkari has also inaugurated road and flyover projects worth about Rs 350 crore in the district.

NCP’s very senior leader Praful Patel also said that the state government is fully prepared to give land in MIDC for dry port, which is the need of the district.

The substantial infrastructure works announced by Nitin Gadkari also include the construction of a flyover on the Deori-Amgaon-Gondia highway, the Gondia-Balaghat railway crossing, and a flyover on the Tiroda-Gondia road.

Nitin Gadkari also announced plans to run metro trains between Nagpur and Gondia and Gondia-Chandrapur.

Gondia-Bhandara MP Sunil Mendhe has also demanded to start direct flights from Gondia’s Birsi airport to Pune and Mumbai.

Earlier on Saturday, Nitin Gadkari had dedicated 20 ‘Amrit Sarovar’ in Akola. The cumulative water storage capacity of these reservoirs is about 1,276 TCM.
