NMC fines telco Rs 4.4 lakh and repair cost on damaged water pipeline

Nagpur: The NMC has imposed a fine of around Rs 4.4 lakh on RJIL for breaking the main drinking water pipeline. The civic body has also directed the telecom company to pay the tax for the repair of the pipeline and ensure restoration at the earliest.
On the date of April 11, despite Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) breaking the pipeline while laying optical fiber cable, the civic body did not impose any fine or even lodged an FIR with the police. The damage to the pipeline also resulted in a huge loss of potable water and the supply was also severely affected in most parts of South-West Nagpur for about 1.5 days. Also, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited had laid the cable on the narrow inner road of Teachers Layout without proper permission.
Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B has also directed these officers to verify all the terms and conditions and initiate all necessary action. Several officials of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation Hotmix department, which allowed the cable to be laid, have reported that Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has been fined around Rs 4.4 lakh.
Along with this, a demand note for the payment of all the expenses incurred on repairing this pipeline has also been sent to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, he added.
The company allows roads to be dug up
West Nagpur MLA Vikas Thakre had demanded that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation should also register an FIR with the police. Because of the complete destruction of the pipeline, there has been a lot of damage to public property and very essential services have also been affected.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also not even started imposing daily fines on Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited for the long delay in completing the work at all. Telecom This company was to complete this work within about three months from the date of October 29, 2021. However, work on many sites is still quite incomplete. In accordance with all the terms and conditions of the permission, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation should also levy a daily fine for inordinate delay.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also continued to consider the applications of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. And this company allows roads to be dug up and cables laid in spite of absolutely no violation of the rules and absolutely no proper restoration in the last almost seven years.
