NMC resumed operations of material recovery plant that segregates dry waste
NAGPUR: Two waste segregation and composting machines have been lying idle for almost a year, many days after TOI reported and as a result of an increase in dumping at Bhandewadi landfill site, health engineering department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has renovated the old composting plant with an installed capacity of around 200 tonnes per day and has also started its operation.
An official has also said about this that Nagpur Municipal Corporation has once again started operating the Material Recovery Plant which completely separates the dry waste. The official also said that the plant can process at least 400 tonnes of dry waste.
Please tell that the operation of both machines has also been started under the supervision of Municipal Corporation Commissioner Radhakrishnan B and Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi.
Although the city also generates around 1,300 tonnes of waste per day, There has also been an increase in the amount of waste dumped at the site due to non-functional machinery that would otherwise have been disposed of at the Bhandewadi landfill.
NMC repaired the old machines for about Rs 10 lakh
Of the 1,300 tonnes of waste generated daily, 500 tonnes of mixed waste is still being dumped at landfill sites, An official of the waste management department has also told that 600 tonnes of wet and 200 tonnes of dry waste are taken separately.
Machine segregation of dry waste such as plastic, bottles, paper, etc. in a material recovery facility Plastic is being used in cement plants and boilers because it works as a refuse-derived fuel. The official also said that the operation of these two machines will also help the civic body in generating revenue from the waste.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has repaired the old machines for about Rs 10 lakh. Since the cost of the new machines is also in crores, the civic body has saved taxpayers’ money to a great extent.
