NU exam format has flaws, possibility of malpractice: Academics
Pravin Joshi, director of Prerna College of Commerce, has also said that the way Nagpur University has decided to conduct the examinations now is no less than a farce.
Nagpur: Teachers are very unhappy with the Nagpur University (NU) summer exam pattern, About which they feel that there are many flaws in it. The pattern of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will lead to cheating and malpractices, to maintain transparency, the examination should be conducted using OMR sheets as the evaluator’s would-be teachers from the same college, they said.
Pravin Joshi, director of Prerna College of Commerce, has also said that the way Nagpur University has decided to conduct the examinations now is no less than a farce. He said that it is indeed very unfortunate that after a very long period of academic and intellectual brainstorming by the university authorities at all levels, Whatever befalls the fate of the students, it is very fatal for their career.
He has also said that the result is clearly visible to all. A very large number of students will score 100% and others will be only slightly behind.
MCQ can be manipulated in offline mode
Muktai Chavan, Assistant Professor, Panjabrao Deshmukh Institute of Management Technology and Research, has said that the multiple-choice questions pattern was acceptable in the online examination due to the restrictions of Coronavirus. If this exam is conducted offline, Then the multiple-choice questions pattern should be case-based or situation-based where the knowledge of the students can also be tested.
Muktai Chavan has also said that very simple multiple-choice questions can be manipulated in offline mode.
A professor of science stream said The duration of each paper is only 90 minutes for 40 questions only. This is not a university standard format at all. Anyhow, why would an institute, department, or college give very low marks to its own students in university exams? If the top officials of the university have planned the same then it is much better to hand over the mark sheet directly instead of conducting the exam.
