NU’s Mass Communication Dept launches Literacy Campaign against ‘Fake News’
We call it Yellow Journalism in the terms of the Mass Communication where anything fake is explored and propagated with all might and will to make people believe that this is the truth. This has been the part and parcel of our modern-day society and unfortunately, the media too has behaved the same way. The Fake News has become the part and parcel of the modern-day media houses.
Hence considering the grim situation in the media world, Nagpur University’s Mass Communication department has embarked upon a media literacy campaign called Dekh Bhai Fake. As per reports, the campaign was kicked off by Mr. Vijay Satokar, (retired Senior Editor, PTI, New Delhi), and the Regional Director, IIMC (Indian Institute of Mass Communication). Talking on the event he said that Fake News has become part and parcel of our lives and that we should be liberated from it.
The Mass Communication Department has taken up the initiative on the eve of the Golden Jubilee year. He then congratulated the students for choosing this subject. During the campaigan, the department is likely to have a number of activities including talk shows, and various other competitions. The department students have formed six different teams and will have different awareness campaign activities on it. The department has targetted both the local and rural colleges in the region and make them aware of it. It will have the ‘Train the Trainers’ program along with taking the university’s National Service Scheme (NSS) unit. Stay tuned to know more on it and others only with us.
