Police raids 19 betting dens before Ind-Pak T20 match, 6 in custody
This is the first time in the city that bookies have been arrested and even before the start of the match, the bookie's places were raided.
Nagpur: Across the city in a huge crackdown on bookies, the Commissioner of Police named Amitesh Kumar, accepting bets on the India-Pakistan match of the T20 World Cup on Sunday. Under him, the Crime Branch officials have conducted raids at around 19 places and also took six people into custody.
This is the first time in the city that bookies have been arrested. And even before the start of the match, the bookie’s places were raided.
All this action has happened in the city itself. And the Nagpur Rural Police has not conducted a single raid. Despite the fact that most of the bookmakers in the city have shifted their base to rural areas before the start of the T20 World Cup match. And reportedly working from resorts and farmhouses now.
The arrested bookies have been identified by the Crime Branch as Ashok Gupta, Rahul Agrawal, Feroz Rafiq Sheikh, Piyush Agrawal, Sonu Chahande, and Pravinkumar alias Ali alias Chintoo Chourasiya.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar had rounded up about 12 bookies in a single day to warn them against continuing their activities. He has said that there have been talks of many bookies fleeing to Goa or Mumbai. It has been said that various teams had conducted raids at specific places to crack down on these illegal activities.
Some top bookies like Pankaj Samosa of Jaripatka and some others from Khamla, Shanti Nagar, Sadar, Wardhaman Nagar, Quetta Colony, Byramji Town were also not found at their whereabouts despite repeated visits. Pankaj has reportedly shifted the activities to Goa. And there also operates from a mansion. A crime branch official has said that we went to his house 3 times. But he was not found.
Now the mobile phones of all the bookies who have been rounded up by the crime branch are also under investigation. In order to trace these betting networks inside the city and to nab their associates, the police are now collecting their (CDR) Call Detail Records as well as the tower location.
