Severe water crisis in Yavatmal, but no funds to implement the plans

Even as the Maharashtra Jevan Pradhikaran (MJP) has floated over a dozen tenders for its water supply expansion plans since January 2022.

Yavatmal: District Collector Amol Yedge has instructed the officers to take immediate steps in the review meeting of the Jal Jeevan Mission held in his office on Wednesday. So that in any way no house in the district is left without a tap connection at all. He has also asked them to prepare an action plan to tackle the water shortage very effectively.

Along with this, Maharashtra Jevan Pradhikaran’s executive engineer Praful Vyavahare has also said that till now no amount has been received for the water supply scheme. He has said that until the money is not received at all, how can these multi-crore schemes be implemented.

In this scorching summer season, the people of the district are also facing a severe shortage of drinking water. Along with this, the housewives have also taken out a front till the Maharashtra Jevan Pradhikaran office regarding the empty utensils. Along with this, stone-pelting and verbal warfare are very common in the EE office. But the officials assure to ensure the supply very soon.

Minister has promised district water supply

Sandipan Bhumre, the Guardian Minister, who visited the district on Maharashtra Day, has held a meeting with the officials and has also instructed them to expedite the work. So that every house has full access to tap water.

The minister has also promised district water supply from the Bembla project till 31st May. Even the work of laying the pipeline and construction of water treatment plants at a distance of about 25 km between the city and the dam site is yet to be completed. Due to the paucity of funds, the work is progressing very slowly.

Guardian minister’s predecessor Madan Yerawar had also promised water from the Bembla project on several occasions.
