SPCA handling of Bhandewadi animal shelter expected to improve
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is going to run an animal shelter inside Bhandewadi for the 1st time.
Nagpur: The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is going to run an animal shelter inside Bhandewadi for the 1st time. It has come after many years of failure by private and government agencies to bring about a good improvement in the pathetic condition of the shelter.
This solution has come out after raising this point during the recent meeting of different Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of different cities.
Senior animal welfare activist and SPCA member Karishma Galani said that as of now, (NMC) Nagpur Municipal Corporation will call for tenders and women or NGOs themselves will give responsibility to all the support groups to run the shelter. In the recent meeting, we have appealed to all the senior officers to hand over it to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Run this Shelter was challenging
The process of authorizing the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to run this shelter was very challenging, but then it has been done successfully.
Galani has said that a group of citizens from different areas have also come forward to bear this cost of shelter, till the money is given to the society. Many people are contributing in different forms, some are providing medical expenses, many are providing rice or laborers wages. Till now, the shelter was in pathetic condition with neither proper medical treatment nor cleanliness and care,
In recent times, the rapidly increasing population of many stray dogs has also led to human-animal conflict. Not only because of dog bites, but many cases of brutal cruelty to animals have come to the fore.
Galani has also said that on this the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is planning to start an operation named Animal Birth Control very soon. Controlling the dog population inside the city has become an important task. And all these problems are arising because due to the dreaded epidemic of covid, the sterilization of many stray animals had stopped. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will very soon ensure that the operations start very soon.
