Loss of over Rs 100 crore in Ballarpur fire? Inferno brought under control after 15 hours

This fierce fire has left huge piles of smoldering ashes where wood and bamboo depots stood.

Chandrapur: A very fierce fire started on Sunday and one Nilgiri wood depot, and two bamboo depots of BILT Graphic Paper Products Ltd., Which is more commonly known by the name of Ballarpur Paper Mill, were burnt to ashes. A petrol pump and the office of a national highway construction company near Kalmana village in Ballarpur tehsil were also brought under control on Monday morning after about 15 hours.

This fierce fire has left huge piles of smoldering ashes where wood and bamboo depots stood. Efforts were on to douse the smoldering smoke till evening with the help of about 25 water tankers.

Even the officials of the paper mill have not made any claim in any way about the quantity of wood and bamboo burnt in this horrific fire. Even though the company has not yet disclosed the exact amount of damage caused to the property, the collective loss is being estimated to be more than Rs 100 crore.

The bamboo stockyard of a private company and also the timber depot of the forest department were saved as the fire was not allowed to move to the other side of the highway at all. Traffic on the section, which was halted on Sunday evening, was allowed to resume once again on Monday morning when the very high flames were doused.

Spark may fly with the wind to the bamboo depot

Former MP Naresh Puglia, Chandrapur MLA Kishor Jorgewar, Ballarpur MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar, and president of Ballarpur Paper Mill Kamgar Sangh visited the spot. And the information was also sought from the officials about this horrific fire.

Sources have also claimed that the company’s board of directors has started an inquiry into the fire incident.

Even during his visit, Jorgewar has fully blamed the Ballarpur Paper Mill officials for this horrific fire. And it is also alleged that the company had absolutely no arrangement at all in its depot to deal with such a situation. They have also claimed that the fire is still smoldering under the ashes and it is also feared that the spark may fly with the wind to the bamboo depot on the other side of the highway. Because of this, another fire may also start. He has also asked the District Collector to control this horrific fire completely and take action against the paper mill which is endangering the lives of the people.
