Ola Bikes Detained in Nagpur

Ola, the online cab booking company recently started bike cabs in the city. The city was excited to use them for faster delivery and cheaper price. The company launched the scheme just a couple of weeks ago and the drivers were being hired to expand the services and increase the availability of the drivers.

Recently, some bikes with Ola app-based taxi aggregator were detained by the regional transport office. the reason behind the bikes being detained was ferrying passengers without mandatory permissions. No response has been observed by the side of Ola but the state transport ministery is not so ready to change their state of mind regarding the subject.

The deputy RTO Atul Adey also confirmed the seizing of bikes. They started this when it came to their attention that bikes are being operated as taxis at a very low price. This was done regarding the breaching of Maharastra Motor Vehicle act. These transport systems are not legal and no permissions have been granted. After Deputy RTO, Transport commissioner also confirmed the news.

“We wish to inform citizens that the ‘bike taxi’ has not been approved either by the Regional Transport Authority or the State Transport Authority. No such fare or tariff has been fixed either so it will be termed illegal” said Transport Commissioner.

“Motorcycles and scooters are non-transport vehicles and cannot be used for goods or passenger transport.  Bike taxi is popular and legal in Goa, but it is not permitted in Maharastra. Even for launching a bike taxi on a pilot basis, they should have obtained permissions from the government.” He added.

He also said that he will be issuing orders to the Nagpur RTO to ensure no bike taxi xan be operated in the city.

Responsive action of Ola is yet to come and maybe solve out the issues to regain their bikes and their operations.
