Trees To Be Chopped For Smart City Project in Nagpur
The Orange City has moved a step ahead for the Smart City Project. There’s a probability that trees will be chopped for the Smart City Project. Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited has also asked for the same.
NSSCDCL, if permitted, will be chopping down 139 trees for the construction of roads under Smart City Project. The Smart City Project area needs these trees to be cut to use that area for the construction of roads. A notice has been issued by Nagpur Municipal Corporation tree officer. The notice was generated to invite suggestions and objections, if any, for the application by NSSCDCL.
However, according to The Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Preservation of Trees Act, 1975; the trees are to be transplanted for road works. As per the information, a road proposed from Navin Nagar to Pardi demands 68 trees to be cut. From Punapur to Bharatwada Road, 33 trees will be cut for road construction. 29 trees will be cut for Bhandara National Highway to Punapur Road construction whereas 6 & 3 trees will be cut from Bharatwada Road to Navkanya Nagar and for the road heading towards Navkanya Nagar respectively.
The roads will extend 52 km long under Smart City Project area and will be constructed by NMC to cover Pardi, Punapur, Bharwada and Bhandewadi in East Nagpur. Sewage network, street lights, footpath, cycling track etc will be well taken care of while constructing these roads. The total cost of construction is around 650 crore. Shapoorji Pallonji Group will be working on this project.
