Fire broke out on Katol road in moving Aapli bus

The standard bus (MH31/CA6102) had started from Kalmeshwar at around 3 pm and was on its way towards Sitabuldi even after picking up many passengers from the Gittikhadan bus stop.

Nagpur: A dangerous fire broke out in the Aapli Bus carrying about 50 passengers on Tuesday afternoon near Gittikhadan police station.

A Gittikhadan police officer said preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a leakage in the diesel pipe.

The standard bus (MH31/CA6102) had started from Kalmeshwar at around 3 pm and was on its way towards Sitabuldi even after picking up many passengers from the Gittikhadan bus stop. Around 3.45 pm, bus driver Rupesh Bhiwankar had also noticed smoke from the front of the bus.

Rupesh Bhiwankar immediately stopped the bus and asked the conductor Roshan Kokate to vacate the bus.

Eyewitnesses have also told that a major accident was averted when a bus caught fire on Katol road, between a petrol pump and an LPG godown near the city’s police headquarters.

Rajendra Uchake, Chief Fire Officer, in a press note also said that the driver tried to douse the fire with the help of an extinguisher, but in vain.

Periodic maintenance of city buses

On getting the information, the fire brigade reached there from Civil Lines, but the fire had engulfed the entire bus and the tender was not controlled at all. One more fire brigade has also been pressed into control to douse the fire. But by then the bus had already burnt.

An officer of the Gittikhadan police station has also told that in the preliminary investigation, it has also been found that the fire was caused by a leak in the diesel pipe. The police officer is still investigating further.

Employees of Aapli Bus have also said that the periodic maintenance of city buses has taken a backseat. He has also said that neither the operator nor the transport department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation supervises the maintenance of your bus fleet. Which ferry more than one lakh passengers daily.
