Nagpur: Freedom fighter Vinayak Savarkar helped the British. Reiterating this, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi also said on Thursday that Vinayak Savarkar has betrayed other freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel.
While interacting with the media at Balapur in Akola district, he read a letter written by Savarkar to the British as well, In which he also said that “I beg to remain your most obedient servant”.
With senior leaders like Former minister Balasaheb Thorat, party’s Maharashtra in-charge HK Bhagat, Jairam Ramesh, MPCC president Nana Patole, and senior journalist Kumar Ketkar, The Wayanad MP also asked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to read Savarkar’s letter. He has also said that a copy should be sent to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as well.
Reacting to threats by some political organizations like MNS to stop
“I am also of the opinion that Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel all went to jail, but never signed any such letter to the British in spite of the heavy pressure. But Savarkar has also come under pressure and has completely surrendered before them. He also asked all these leaders to follow him by signing the letter, but they did not bow down at all under the pressure,” they said.
Reacting to threats by some political organizations like MNS to stop their visit even after their comments on Savarkar, the Gandhi family has said that they are welcome to do so. “If the government also wants, then it can easily stop this yatra. We are not dictators, we are ready for discussion on all issues. But, I am absolutely clear that Savarkar actually helped the British,” former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said.
