Another tiger hunt; whiskers, canine missing
This is the third death of tigers in the last 13 days. On the date of 3rd January, a young tigress has died due to electrocution in Bhadravati (Chandrapur).
Nagpur: A tiger was hunted on Thursday, Because his mustache, paws, and canines were missing. This incident has happened in the landscape of NNTR in Arjuni Morgaon range of district Gondia.
This is the third death of tigers in the last 13 days. On the date of 3rd January, a young tigress has died due to electrocution in Bhadravati (Chandrapur). And two days later, another was killed in an alleged field battle in the Porla range in Gadchiroli.
The carcass of the tiger was seen at around 9 in the morning. On Thursday morning, the forest staff got information about the death from the villagers. According to sources, the body was about 500 meters away from the agricultural area and there is also an indication that it was killed somewhere else and then dumped on forest land.
Forest guard RD Rane and others have found that the mustache and upper canines of the animal had disappeared. The hunters had also tried to bite off a paw.
Feared Tiger Navegaon National Park
Officials including Honorary wildlife wardens Sawan Bahekar, Mukund Dhurve, NNTR field director RM Ramanujam, and Gondia deputy conservator (DyCF) Kulraj Singh have reached the spot. But despite repeated calls, the vet was missing. Because of this tiger post-mortem could not be done.
RM Ramanujam has said that the carcass of the tiger has been kept at the same place. And the postmortem will be done on Friday. Only a local Livestock Development Officer was present. And he refused to do the post-mortem of the tiger as protocol required two more. The vet arrived at around 4.30 pm. Since they may not have finished the work before it gets dark, Because of this, he has decided to postpone the postmortem.
It was also feared that the tiger would belong to the Navegaon National Park. But it turns out to be an uncontrolled one running along the Vadsa-Navegaon corridor. Sources on the spot have said that they heard the roar of the tiger till evening, indicating that there may be a female in the same area. Ramanujam has said that there were pugmarks near the carcass of male tigers.
The incident came days after CM Uddhav Thackeray addressed the forest officials and senior police and members of the state’s wildlife board. And told them to pull off their socks and intensify the joint patrol.
