Train crushes Indian gaur on Chandrapur Fort-Gondia track
The gaur on the track passing through Junona range under the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) has been cut into pieces on Monday morning.
Chandrapur: A few days after the tiger was cut off from the train on the Kagaznagar-Rajura-Chandrapur railway track, a very powerful Indian gaur died after being hit by a very high-speed train on the Chanda Fort-Gondia track.
The gaur on the track passing through Junona range under the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) has been cut into pieces on Monday morning. Simultaneously, the accident took place in the early hours of the Junona forest, about four kilometers from Chanda Fort station. The body parts of the female gaur have been found scattered along the track in compartment number 483.
Dinesh Khate, a wildlife activist from the NGO Habitat Conservation Society, who visited the spot, has also claimed that the gaur was hit by a goods train.
“Part of the face, half of both the forelimbs, and a whole hind leg had been detached from the main body, and the abdomen was torn apart, taking out the intestine and other parts. Along with this, Dr. Kundan Podchalwar, in charge of the Transit Treatment Center, has done the postmortem on the spot and confirmed the death due to being hit by the train.” The account said.
Committee of the Forest Department was formed to prevent such wildlife accidents
The activist has also claimed that in the month of June, an Indian gaur had died after being hit by a very high-speed train at the same place. A part of Gaur’s crown, which was already dead, was lying on the side of the railway track. They said. In the past, many tigers, leopards, bears, sambar, Indian gaur, and snakes have died in train accidents on the Chanda Fort-Gondia track.
A committee of the Forest Department was also formed to prevent such wildlife accidents. And it recommended a lot of mitigation measures, including reducing the speed of trains while passing through the forest. However, the Railway Department did not pay any heed to the suggestions of the Forest Department and wild animals are also dying in this section.
