AAP hopes for strong start in Nagpur Municipal Corporation polls after win in MCD polls
The tenure of the Nagpur civic body has completely expired and an administrator (NMC commissioner) was appointed earlier this year.
Nagpur: After a stupendous performance in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is hopeful that the same trend will continue in the Nagpur civic body elections as well.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Vidarbha coordinator Devendra Wankhede said, “There is clearly an undercurrent and we all feel reassured after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi results. However, one cannot deny the fact that if the body elections are prolonged So we can’t say for sure how much of an impact it will have on the results.”
The tenure of the Nagpur civic body has completely expired and an administrator (NMC commissioner) was appointed earlier this year. Since then no official date for the civic elections has been announced at all. Devendra Wankhede said, “Even today we are not sure when the elections will be held. Once the date is declared, all the parties can start campaigning.”
Whatever the date, Devendra Wankhede has said that there are certain issues that will be crucial to your campaign.
Devendra Wankhede said, “People also understand what is happening around them and there is also an anti-incumbency wave. People know how schools are closing, how bad the health infrastructure is and so they want change.”
Nagpur hasn’t really transformed into one of the top cities in India
“You feel that the party may become the ‘default choice’ for elections. The work you have done everywhere, They have seen that and know that we are handling the issues that directly concern them. Even in Nagpur, people will choose you because they have seen work elsewhere.” Devendra Wankhede said.
For the anti-incumbency factor, Wandkhede says there are many things his party can highlight. “We have had a chief minister from Nagpur for five years, who is currently the deputy chief minister. We also have had a union minister in the city since 2014, but still, Nagpur hasn’t really transformed into one of the top cities in India. We do not even number one in the Swachh ranking.” Devendra Wankhede said.
Apart from this, Devendra Wankhede also says that the presence of their star campaigners will definitely make an impact. “Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Singh Mann are definitely the campaigners that we are going to request for Nagpur. Now, all we need to know is the exact date of the election so that everything can be planned well in advance.” Devendra Wankhede said.
