In a significant decision, the Indian Railways have decided to redevelop the Nagpur Railway station like a world-class facilities station just like an international airport. Yes, you heard it right, the Nagpurians will be able to avail of the world-class airport facilities like the station in the city. As per reports, Nagpur railway station is among the one railway station in the country out of four chosen to develop with high-end looks and top facilities.
This project would be undertaken under the mode called the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. Some of the key redevelopment plans of Nagpur Railways station would involve highlighting the heritage station done by building up a new building adjoining the main buildings which seemed to have been in place for past so many decades. In one of the recent press meet with Mr. SK Lohia, the MD & CEO of the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Ltd (IRSDC), he talked about the plan, which was granted by the Public-Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) this 29th December 2019.
Some of the Salient features of Nagpur Railway Station Redevelopment Project include the following:
The proposed area for redevelopment is around Rs 372 crore to be constructed at the proposed site area of 5,50,400 square meters.
The adjoining buildings that have been building for long would be kept as a unique heritage station building. However, the new entry and exit points would be planned in a different place.
The entry would be via a concourse giving a smooth passage and spacious waiting area at the station. Both the entry and exit area would be developed at the 44,510 square meters.
The concourse and FOB (foot-over-bridge) to be developed in an area of 7,997 square meters.
The second entry will be clubbed with the Nagpur Maha Metro
The newly developed space would have proper lighting, signages, and modern amenities.
The complete station to be designed as Divyang friendly to make it comfortable for the physically able commuters
Besides, it will have all the commercial facilities at the Nagpur station including different stores, hospitality avenues, and food joints to name a few just to meet the day to day requirements of the local commuters.
