City Gets Sandip Joshi as its New Mayor
As the elections for mayor finally ended recently for the Mayor and other positions, the election reports seemed to be awaited the most. BJP with its clear majority embarked with its senior leader Sandeep Joshi as its 53rd Mayor in the city who took over the reins taking away from the former mayor – Nanda Jichkar who congratulated Patil to acquiring the new position.
He has come a long way before he emerged in this position. A four times corporator from his ward, he hails from family of an MLC apart from being a good friend of the CM Devendra Fadnavis. The 49-year-old Sandip Joshi started his career working as a sales man and has also done a couple of odd jobs including working with printing the annual diary for Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Since his father — Diwakarrao, the former MLC — was a man of principles, he never took any advantage to get over the success ladder.
It was Nitin Gadkari who gave him the BJP ticket for the municipal elections from Khamla in 1992, however, he dropped it on his father’s advice not to contest as it would appear to be a favor from him. Therefore the young Sandip continued working as a salesman in a furniture manufacturing company getting a meager Rs 800 per month in 1993. He then also opened his cyber cafe and his printing shop. He then got the printing work from the NMC and later in 1997 when his father gave him the green signal before his demise, he entered into politics.
