CR set new target for trains running at 160 kmph
Central Railway has started preparations to upgrade this speed category to 'semi-high speed' at around 160 kmph and above.
Nagpur: As per the Railway Board’s order, the division of CR (Central Railway) Nagpur is currently working on implementing the vision of trains running at a speed of about 160 kmph by 2024.
With the targeted speed limit of around 130 kmph, there is still only one final clearance away from the Commission for Railway Safety (CRS). Central Railway has already started preparations to upgrade this speed category to ‘semi-high speed’ at around 160 kmph and above.
Various upgradation of technology is being done to achieve the speed of about 160 kmph in 2 sections of the Nagpur Division. This section is about 380 km from Nagpur to Badnera and also the Itarsi-Ballarshah 510 km section.
Trains run at a speed of about 110 kmph here but very soon both the parts are expected to run at a speed of about 130 kmph.
An official has also said that Commission for Railway Safety had also raised many questions after our submission seeking clearance at a speed of around 130 kmph. And we have also complied with it and have also sent back our final reply. And the approval is also expected very soon.
Requirement to run trains
Under the supervision of Divisional Railway Manager Richa Khare, Central Railway is currently working on extensive upgradation of this existing technology to take the speed limit to the ‘Semi High Speed’ category.
According to an official, a very important technology revolving around Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) has also been adopted in a big way as the need to run trains in the semi high-speed category.
The official also said that the safety system of the automatic train is being upgraded to ensure that there is almost 0 accident zone. Very soon this existing signaling and telecommunication system will be developed, modified and upgraded to such an extent that the speed of these trains will be automatically controlled. And the coaches are also being upgraded to meet the speed requirements of around 160 kmph.
The official has also said that the cab signaling is already there but it will be upgraded and modified as well. And running at a speed of around 160 kmph, these trains will drastically reduce the much needed time of about 45 minutes to 1 hour. While upgrading to around 130 kmph, a few components were also complied with which will now ease the transition of the Central Railway to around 160 kmph.
