Crunch in Fire Department Staff Claims NMC
As per the recent buzz in the city, the civic body – NMC has claimed that there seems to be a crunch of manpower in the fire department in Nagpur. The city fire department is facing around 76 percent of a shortage of manpower at different levels and it would turn acute in the coming years as well. As per the report, the retirement has been on the higher side, while the intake of the staff has remained zero making all the mess. This will continue to hamper the years 2020 and 2021.
As per reports, there are 872 total seats in the fire department which has to be filled to run the department smoothly. The reports suggest that 657 seats are remaining vacant. Currently, the department is running with the staff of only 215 personnel only. With this, if you check the ratio, we have only one fireman against the population of 34756 citizens of Nagpur.
Talking about the same reports stating that Nagpur fire department is lucky enough not to get any fire accident of mishap in the city, which needs the requirement of staff to control the situation. As per reports, in a total vacancy of 872 staff, we have 500 for firemen, 162 for drivers, 81 for leading firemen and the majority of these vacancies seemed to be vacant. Even the important positions like fire assistants are missing. Now, we see NMC recommending about the same to the concerned department to address the dearth of staff in the city.
