Govt sitting on ‘interim report’ of city police on Regional Transport Office scam

The city police had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) to probe irregularities in transfers in the Regional Transport Office department.

Nagpur: The interim report of the city police on the cash-for-transfer scam in the Regional Transport Office (RTO) was sent to the government about a month ago. But the lack of response from the ministry has left the investigation in complete limbo.

The city police had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) to probe irregularities in transfers in the Regional Transport Office department. And also the Special Investigation Team had recommended transfer of seven officers, including Kalyan, to completely different non-executive postings to enable them to complete the investigation in an unbiased manner and collect more concrete evidence. In this report, the ‘extreme complicity’ of the officers in the process of transfers has been underlined.

It is also learned that the report had also mentioned that the police may need suggestions and more clarity on the issue of the complainant when the crime is registered.

Sources have said that the key ministers and some officials of the government had orally informed the police top officials of the city to find out the scam, After an audio clip related to allotment of choice posting against huge payment through a former Regional Transport Office officer went viral. A police officer associated with this investigation has also said that the former RTO was brought to Nagpur by Kalyan officials to get the transfer of choice fixed.

Please tell that the city police had called a crowd of senior RTO officials for enquiry. But after finding the flow of these evidences, after not reaching any concrete conclusion at all, an interim report had to be sent recommending the transfers.

You tell people one of the Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI), who was recently booked in corruption cases by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), was also named as required to be shifted out of Nagpur. The government’s delay in reacting has added another chapter of corruption to the RTO controversies.

Another Motor Vehicle Inspectors named for transfer was behind an unknown firing from his service revolver last year in which he was fatally wounded. And the city police had suppressed the incident without registering a case of wrongful use of service weapon.

After this firing incident, there was a lot of commotion in the RTO. After which a series of complaints have started against each other including complaints of harassment among the RTO officials.
