Nagpur: Dr SN Lulay (75), former HOD of IGGMCH and a practicing ENT surgeon, was very unhappy with the nasal implants available to his patient with the depressed nose, This is known as saddle deformity and requires augmentation rhinoplasty.
Dr SN Lulay said that while performing cosmetic surgery on the nose, he had to use imported nose implants that were completely unsuitable for the structure of his patient’s nose.
He has said that despite being expensive, sometimes prostheses did not meet the needs of her patients at all.
Dr SN Lulay says that through testing and feedback from plastic and ENT surgeons, he has proven that the implant is of international quality.
He was also granted a patent for the implant in March 2022.
Maintain the composition of the material
ENT surgeons have stated that indigenous implants are very well tolerated among Asian races. It has said that the rejection rate of silicone implants among Asians is much lower than among Europeans. He has patients of almost 20 years of followers Those who have not faced any problem at all. He has done about 300 implant cases in about 45 years. Of these, about 250 were done with silicone, while the rest were done using iliacast bones and ribs. Silicone also gives the best results. Bone grafts carry a high risk of bone resorption.
Associate Professor Uddanwadiker has said that he had invited Dr. Lule to oversee his projects in the year 2013-14.
Dr SN Lulay told them that he wanted the implant to be standardized for Asian patients. Sometimes he had to trim too. When the thickness reduced, two had to be stacked, Or adjustments had to be made. They have also provided medical books to read about different nose shapes. He also collected data and designed the implant. His department had never made such an implant at all. Chemical analysis was also done to maintain the composition of the material as per international norms. Removing the bubbles was another challenge that he had to solve.
