Jail inmate made three threat calls to Nitin Gadkari’s office

A senior police officer has also said that the caller, identified as Jayesh Pujari, made the call from his barrack in Belagavi jail.

Nagpur: A man claiming to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang has threatened Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari’s public relations office at Khamla in Maharashtra’s Nagpur thrice on Saturday and has demanded about 100 crore rupees.

Speaking in Hindi, the caller, later identified as an inmate of Belagavi Jail in Karnataka, also threatened to blow up the office if the amount was not paid. Sources have also said that when the call was made, Nitin Gadkari was not at all in his office. An employee of the Public Relations Office also picked up the phone.

“Three calls had been made to the minister demanding around Rs 100 crore from a caller claiming to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang,” Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said. He has also confirmed that the caller was also a murder accused who is currently lodged in Belagavi Jail.

Police control room of the city had also received a threat call

A senior police officer has also said that the caller, identified as Jayesh Pujari, made the call from his barrack in Belagavi jail. Jayesh Pujari was also involved in the jailbreak case in 2016. It is also learned that he had made similar threat calls to many prominent personalities in the past as well. “He is currently being interrogated in jail as well. His motive behind making the call is still not clear at all,” the officer said.

A police source also said that Jayesh Pujari made three calls to the landline of Nitin Gadkari’s PR office at 11.25 am, 11.32 am and 12.32 pm. He talked for about three minutes during the first call and for two-three minutes in the second. During this last call which lasted for about two minutes, the Pujari also shared his mobile number.

Security was also beefed up around the city MP’s office and residence following the threat call.

Even before this, on the date of December 31, 2022, the police control room of the city had also received a threat call to blow up the RSS headquarters in the city. And the call was made using a virtual number and the caller remains anonymous till date.
