Most children of Vidarbha landed in ICU due to infectious diseases: Experts

Nagpur: Doctors providing critical care to children admitted in paediatric intensive care units (PICU) have said that in Vidarbha, most of the pediatric age group ICU admissions are due to infectious diseases.
For many, there are reasons such as accidents, trauma and very serious breathing problems. But most of the children in Vidarbha require a lot of ICU care due to infectious diseases like dengue, chikungunya, flu, and also pneumonia developed due to waterborne diseases. Dr. Anand Bhutada, became the President of PICC, Indian Academy of paediatrics Nagpur. Abhijit Choudhary was also installed as Honorary Secretary of PICC.
He has said that children who are very overweight with obesity are more likely to get infected and be admitted to the paediatric intensive care units. Children’s obesity has become the root of many diseases even in the new generation. Children should also do enough physical labor during this age, which is lacking in the changed way of life.
Train resident doctors and nurses in pediatric critical care
Dr. Anand Bhutada further states that Nagpur city, despite being the health center of central India, has very few pediatric intensive care units which are fully capable of offering Level 3 critical care.
Since the number of PICUs is very limited, PICC has decided to train resident doctors and nurses in pediatric critical care this year itself. Dr. Anand Bhutada has said that it is his mission to train more health workers in Pediatric ICU care. So that they have at least trained manpower to deal with the case of limited equipment and beds.
Dr. Satish Deopujari, a Veteran of Pediatric Intensive Care, who is also the Patron of PICC, has also told that doctors working in Pediatric ICU have also increased their responsibilities. Dr. Mahesh Mohite from Pune has also told how very important care can be provided in a small nursing home, Whereas Dr. Satish Soans talks about leadership for Pediatricians in very distress.
