VNIT Students’ Food Wastage Model Bags Victory at Harvard Hackathon

A proud moment for our city when we see the Nagpur college – VNIT students got recognized at Harvard Hackathon. Three students from the reputed Engineering college in the city have bagged the prestigious HackHarvard Global Hackathon 2019, which was held recently at the Harvard University in Boston, USA last month. All three are chemical engineering students of VNIT and they have been working on the model to slash down the food wastage mostly found at hotels and restaurants that would now help in conserving water and thus reducing the carbon emissions.

Earlier in May, the local media has reported that the students are developing something for the global technology contest. Three out of the 500 students who participated in the contest from different places of the world last month between 18 to 20 October. It all started last year on 12th December for the B.Tech students – Vishnu Mamidi, Sumit Saboo and Utkarsh Gupta who came to know about the competition.

They then applied for the same where they explained the issue and its impact, solution along with the feasibility and technologies used for the same. They also explained the business plan and the future of the venture into minutes that impressed the audience and the judges alike giving him the award. They also got the chance to present their project before the top executives of giants like Google, Microsoft, and Facebook along with the Harvard Engineering professors who were in the jury.
