Nagpur: On Monday Amitesh Kumar, City Police Chief, started a Defence Helpline (9405114422) for the next of kin of Paramilitary personnel and Army personnel, who are local residents. This facility will be very beneficial for the retired personnel also, especially for the personnel posted at remote places.
This helpline was started by the top cop. To ensure that the families of Defense and Para-Military personnel do not have to run away from each other for any grievance of theirs. Amitesh wanted to establish a ‘one-point contact’ for the family as his family members were not available to meet their needs as they were busy in remote border outposts. To ensure that their issues are addressed on a single platform.
Family Members Face Harassment
Kumar has also said that the facility will be operated from the Economic Offenses Wing of the Crime Branch and an officer will also be made in charge of the cell. The relatives or the soldiers of the army or paramilitary force are open to contact the local police stations, But now a parallel facility has also been created to give them more options to get help. Once they receive any complaint or grievances of any kind, Then they will also coordinate with the concerned police station or unit to resolve the issues of the senior officer.
Amitesh has also said that the help desk personnel will ensure that the complaints are followed up, expeditiously and in a time-bound manner. The top cop has said that this has also been observed and it was also being discussed informally that due to some legal hurdles, the kin of jawans are often left completely helpless. Sometimes his own family members also had to face harassment. The police will definitely make extra efforts to provide assistance to the army and paramilitary forces.
