Nagpur: Cyber crooks who participated for free during the lockdown in the year 2020 have not got such success in the year 2021 at all When people were not completely dependent on the online medium at all and could access facilities and establishments as restrictions eased.

According to global studies, the lockdown forced people to spend more time on the internet and often use online transactions, Due to which there has also been an increase in cybercrime.
According to the data available from the cyber cell, there were 3,365 complaints in the year 2021 as compared to 4,234 in the year 2020. In the year 2018, there were 1,824 complaints which increased in 2019 to 3,023.
According to Assistant PI Keshav Wagh, Cyber Cell of Nagpur City Police, who worked under the supervision of Additional CP Sunil Phulari and DCP Chetna Tidke, Awareness camps were organized in 40 educational institutions, 19 offices of NGOs and others. There were about 17 interactive sessions and two through broadcast.
Complainants had recovered their lost money
Keshav is said to have conducted several webinars and seminars to create awareness about the latest practices of cyber crooks, ways to stay safe and the behavior and ethics of other social media platforms. People were given back more than Rs 1.72 crore they had lost.
According to Keshav, the cyber cell was successful in resolving about 1,431 complaints in the year 2021. In about 174 cases, the complainants had recovered their lost money and also restored it in the bank accounts, In which two were also from abroad.
In the case of the murder of a senior citizen by his grandson, the cyber cell helped the police to trace the case with the help of very important data extraction from the cellphone of the prime accused.
