Kalicharan Maharaj arrested by Wardha police

He has already been produced in the court of JMFC My Nameday. From where he has been sent to judicial custody for about 14 days.

Wardha: The team of the city police station has arrested Kalicharan Maharaj from Raipur for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi on the date of 26 December. Kalicharan has been brought to Wardha on Wednesday morning.

He has already been produced in the court of JMFC My Nameday. For about 14 days, from where he has been sent to judicial custody.

In the Raipur Central Jail, Maharaj was lodged after his arrest in another complaint filed on this issue. Sub-divisional police officer Piyush Jagtap has said that Abhijit Sarag alias Kalicharan Maharaj (45) was brought from Raipur to Wardha on a production warrant at around five in the morning under the leadership of PSI Pravin Patil. On Tuesday evening Wardha police had reached Raipur.

Piyush has told that on the complaint of District Congress Party unit president Manoj Chandurkar, a case was registered against Maharaj on the date of 29 December 2021 in the city police station under sections 153 and 505 (2) of the IPC.

The source said that a police source has also told that Maharaj has been sent to Raipur Central Jail in judicial custody. The utmost secrecy was maintained while bringing him to Wardha.

Maharaj had criticized Mahatma Gandhi during a program in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Several complaints were also filed against him. The video of Maharaj speech had gone viral on the social media platform.

Manoj has also said that similar derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi continue to cause chaos and unrest in the society. Objectionable statements should not be made at all without any information. Mahatma Gandhi preached the message of peace and non-violence, As a resident of district Wardha. Mahatma Gandhi took a peaceful approach and filed a police complaint. They have faith that the police will take action as per the law and will definitely punish the guilty.
