Nagpur Mayor & Other officials surrender their official vehicles
The day the official dates for the upcoming state elections came to light from the Election Commission, it is rare to see the political leaders shun their official luxury under the Model Code of Conduct by submitting their official vehicles to their concerned department. The city mayor – Nanda Jichkar was first to surrender her official car to the department under the said code of conduct in the city. She was soon joined by the other office bearers as well.
The other office bearers doing the same include Dep Mayor – Deepraj Pardikar, Tanaji Vanve leader of the opposition and the chairpersons of various bodies and committees also did the same. As per reports, now, they are using their vehicles for their official and personal transport within and outside the city. As per the rules of Election Commission, the moment the polls are announced in any state, the concerned the officials in the civic bodies are supposed to surrender their official vehicles.
Following the Major was quick to submit her vehicle to the concerned department and so was the other office-bearers in the city. The state elections are declared last week by the election commission in the state, which will be a single-phase and it will be held on 21st Oct, while the counting of the votes would be undertaken on 24th October. All the office bearers would, therefore, maintain the code of conduct after the announcement till the next government comes to power and people on the post take their oath on it.
