Nagpur: The Chief Election Commissioner of India has significantly relaxed the Model Code of Conduct for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). And it has also been fully permitted to take up the related infrastructure works right from the G20 summit itself.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation is also scheduled to host one of the global summits in the city on 20th March.
Tell that 161 development works worth about Rs 190 crore are also going on in three assembly constituencies West, South West, and South Nagpur. And also the work is being done only on those routes which can be used by the G20 delegates to go to two-star hotels on Wardha Road, Futala Lake, and Deekshabhoomi.
“Much of the work is also going to involve substantial road strengthening, landscaping, beautification, and electric lighting along these routes,” said a senior Nagpur Municipal Corporation official.
NMC forwarded to the Chief Election Commissioner of India in New Delhi
In the month of December last year, the ECI also announced the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in view of the teachers’ constituency elections to be held on January 30.
It also completely barred the Nagpur Municipal Corporation from taking up tasks related to the G20 summit. And also Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B also contacted the District Election Returning Officer and submitted an application seeking relaxation in the Model Code of Conduct.
Subsequently, the application of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also been forwarded to the Chief Election Commissioner of India in New Delhi. Recently, Nagpur Municipal Corporation also received a letter from the Election Commission that the model code of conduct has been relaxed. The official said, ‘As of now we have started the work on a war footing.’
