OCW Fails to Recover 194 Cr Bill Amount for Water Supply in City
It’s a huge loss for the city-based body taking care of the water supply in Nagpur called Orange City Water Private Ltd commonly known as OCW as more than 50 per cent of the people in the city are yet to settle their dues for the water supply. As per reports, as on the 31st of Jan 2020, the amount has gone up to a staggering amount of 194 Crores, which is huge for the body to sustain the business. Despite running the schemes like Amnesty Schemes, the body is yet to recover the pending bill amount.
As per reports, the OCW is getting 740 MLD of water from Kanhan river and Pench reservoir against the total supply of 350 MLD to meet the requirement of the city. Nagpur has around 3.61 lakhs of water consumers while 1.7 lakhs of consumers in this number are defaulters as they are yet to pay the said amount. This means around half of the people have yet to settle their bills for the water supply they have been getting at their place.
The water body has disconnected the water supply of 4293 in the city that has helped them raise around 14.71 Crores from them so far. As per reports, the revenue earned from the water supply for the current year is around 116.24 crores against the target of 166 Crores. This means the water body seems to be in loss. However, the Chief of the body Mr. Vijay Zalke said that they are going to remove the hurdles and are therefore expected to raise around 142 Crores of revenue this year.
