Chandrapur: In response to the very aggressive stand of Balu alias Suresh Dhanorkar, the only Congress MP from Maharashtra, the district administration has also ordered Dhariwal Industries Limited. And also to pay compensation of about Rs 62.36 lakh to farmers for crop damage due to seepage of water from the ash pond of the company, which operates a 600 MW thermal power plant.
Suresh Dhanorkar has also said that a high-level committee constituted by the administration to look into the matter has asked the company to pay a collective compensation of Rs 62.36 lakh to 28 farmers who have faced crop loss since 2015-16.
There has been a long delay in releasing the compensation as the company has objected to the survey conducted by the administration and has also sought a review. And apart from this, the model code of conduct in force because of the elections to the graduate constituency has completely restrained the collector from taking action, Suresh Dhanorkar said.
The issue will be resolved in the meeting called by the collector
Suresh Dhanorkar has also claimed that the company is fully prepared to pay compensation after reviewing the damages caused by the ash pond leakage. The plant has also appointed consultants from IIT Kanpur and NIT Rourkela to take corrective measures against leakage from the ash reservoir.
Immediately after the completion of the election, this issue will be resolved in the meeting called by the collector.
The company has also submitted a report to the administration claiming 100% utilization of fly ash and bottom ash generated by the power plant after objections raised by Suresh Dhanorkar. However, the MP has also written to the state pollution control department to verify the claims made by the power plant.
